Deploying Folders from a Matrix
Learn how to deploy a standardized folder structure from a Project Matrix in Foreman to ensure consistent organization across all ACC projects.
A Project Matrix in Foreman defines a standardized folder structure that can be deployed to any ACC project. This ensures every project follows your organization's directory conventions from day one.
What Is a Project Matrix?
A Project Matrix is a predefined template of folders organized by levels. It captures your organization's standard folder hierarchy, including naming conventions and nesting rules. When deployed, Foreman creates the matching folders inside your ACC project.
Step 1 — Select the Matrix
Navigate to your project and open the Folder Deployment section. Choose the matrix you want to deploy from the available options. Each matrix may target a different standard or discipline.
You can preview the total folder count before deploying to understand the scope of the operation.
Step 2 — Choose Level 1 Options
Depending on the matrix configuration, you may need to select which Level 1 categories to include. This lets you tailor the deployment to the specific needs of the project without deploying unnecessary folders.
Step 3 — Preview the Folder Structure
Before deploying, review the folder tree that will be created. The preview shows the full hierarchy so you can confirm it matches expectations.
Folder deployment is additive — it creates missing folders but does not delete or rename existing ones. You can safely re-deploy a matrix to fill in gaps without affecting files already uploaded.
Step 4 — Deploy
Click Deploy to begin creating folders in ACC. Foreman processes folders in order and displays a real-time progress indicator showing:
- Total folders to create
- Folders created so far
- Current folder being processed
- Any errors encountered
Large deployments with hundreds of folders may take several minutes. You can navigate away and return later; the deployment continues in the background.
Handling Conflicts
If a folder with the same name already exists at the target location, Foreman skips it and moves on. No existing data is overwritten or removed. After the deployment completes, review the summary to see which folders were created and which were skipped.
After deployment, run a folder validation to confirm the project's actual structure matches the matrix definition. This catches any discrepancies early.
