Demo Mode

Try the full Project Matrix Wizard without signing up. Pre-populated sample data, AI suggestions, and local auto-save.

What is Demo Mode?

Demo Mode lets you experience the full Project Matrix Wizard without creating an account or connecting an Autodesk Construction Cloud project. It uses pre-populated sample data from a UK infrastructure project so you can explore every feature — including AI-powered suggestions — in a risk-free sandbox.

No account required. Visit /demo/project-matrix to start immediately.

Sample data

The demo is pre-populated with realistic data modelled on a UK infrastructure project:

Level Values
Level 1 (Parties) Principal Consultant, Contractor, Employer, Delivery Planning, Sub-Contractor
Level 2 (Functions) General, Checker, Design/Project Manager, Estimator
Level 3 (Disciplines) Civil, Structural, M&E, Environmental, Active Travel

The configuration also includes:

  • Overrides — Employer restricted to General and Checker functions only
  • Display names — PC, CON, EMP, DP, SC shortcodes for folder naming
  • Descriptions — AI-quality descriptions for every value

What works in Demo Mode

Feature Demo behaviour
All 5 wizard steps Fully functional with sample data
AI suggestions Work on every step (rate-limited to 20 requests/hour)
AI role restructuring Upload your own CSV and restructure non-standard roles into the 3-level format
Roles Preview & CSV check Compare generated roles against sample role data
Undo / Redo & keyboard shortcuts Work normally (purely client-side)
Import from ACC / folder browsing Hidden — requires a real ACC project connection
Save to database Replaced with a Save button (floppy disk icon) that saves to browser local storage, with a toast confirmation

Auto-save to local storage

Your demo progress is automatically saved to your browser's local storage after every change. This means:

  • Close the tab and come back later — your configuration is restored exactly where you left off.
  • Clear your browser data — the saved state will be lost.
  • Different browsers or devices — each has its own independent save.

The local storage key is foreman-demo-matrix, with a companion key foreman-demo-matrix-saved-at storing the last save timestamp.

Saving your demo work

Click the Save button (floppy disk icon in the wizard toolbar) or the Save button in the demo banner to persist your configuration to browser local storage. A toast notification confirms: "Saved to browser. When you're ready, you can import this into a real project."

The save button follows the same style as the real wizard — it highlights blue when there are unsaved changes and turns grey when the configuration is clean.

Importing your demo work

When you sign up and navigate to any project-context page (e.g. Folders and Permissions, Project Settings), Foreman detects your saved demo configuration and shows an import banner displaying the matrix name and when it was last saved.

  1. Navigate to any page with a project selected.
  2. A blue banner appears: "[Matrix name] saved [date and time] — Import it into a real project or discard it."
  3. Click Import to open the Project Matrix Wizard pre-filled with your demo data and the selected project's hub/project IDs.
  4. Save the wizard — your demo work becomes a live configuration.
  5. Click the X (discard) button to clear the demo data from your browser.

The import banner only appears when you have a project selected (hub and project context in the URL). It does not appear on the demo page itself or on pages without project context (e.g. Dashboard).

The import replaces the demo sentinel values (HubId=demo, ProjectId=demo) with your real project IDs, so the configuration can be saved and deployed normally. The demo data in local storage is not cleared on import — only when you explicitly discard it — so you can import the same demo into multiple projects.

Rate limiting

Demo AI endpoints are rate-limited to 20 requests per hour per IP address. This prevents abuse while giving you enough budget to explore all five steps. If you hit the limit, wait an hour or sign up for unlimited access.

For authenticated users

Logged-in users can also access Demo Mode from Try Project Matrix in the sidebar. The experience adapts:

  • Save button saves to browser local storage (same floppy disk icon as the real wizard)
  • Import banner appears on project-context pages showing the saved matrix name and timestamp
  • Contextual hints link to your real project pages instead of sign-up
  • Export JSON is available for system administrators
