Roles and Admin Access

Learn how roles and admin access work in Autodesk Construction Cloud and Foreman, including differences between project and account admins and how role assignments affect permissions.

Autodesk Construction Cloud uses a role-based access model to control what members can see and do within a project. Foreman lets you view and manage these role assignments across your projects.

ACC roles

Roles in ACC determine a member's permissions within a specific project. The most common roles include:

A single member can hold multiple roles on the same project. For example, someone might be both a Project Manager and a Document Manager if they handle both responsibilities.

Project admin vs account admin

It is important to understand the distinction between these two levels of administrative access:

Project Admin

  • Scoped to a single project.
  • Can manage members, roles, and settings within that project.
  • Can configure folder permissions and document workflows.
  • Cannot affect other projects or account-level settings.

Account Admin

  • Scoped to the entire ACC account (hub).
  • Can create and manage all projects within the account.
  • Can add and remove members at the account level.
  • Controls billing, account settings, and global configurations.

In Foreman, the Admin Access toggle on a project member controls whether they have project-level admin privileges. Account-level admin access is managed through the ACC admin console.

How roles affect permissions

Roles determine what actions a member can perform:

  • File access -- Roles like Document Manager grant broader file and folder permissions, while Project Member access depends on folder-level sharing.
  • Member management -- Only Project Admins and Account Admins can add or remove members from a project.
  • Settings -- Project configuration (naming conventions, workflows, etc.) is restricted to admin roles.
  • Module access -- Some ACC modules (Cost, Schedule, etc.) may restrict access based on role assignments.

Use the Role Finder in Foreman to quickly see what roles a specific person holds across all your projects. This is especially useful when troubleshooting access issues.
