Using the Role Finder
Learn how to use Foreman’s Role Finder to search, compare, and resolve role assignments across projects for consistent access and permission management.
The Role Finder in Foreman lets you search and compare role assignments across multiple projects in your ACC account. This is useful for understanding who has access to what, verifying consistent role assignments, and troubleshooting permission issues.
Searching roles across projects
- Open the Role Finder from the Foreman navigation menu.
- Enter a search term -- this can be a member's name, email address, or a role name.
- Foreman queries all projects in the selected hub and returns matching results.
The results display each matching member alongside their role assignments on every project where they appear. This cross-project view makes it easy to spot inconsistencies or missing access.
The Role Finder searches across all projects you have admin access to. If you cannot see a project in the results, check that you have the appropriate permissions on that project.
Comparing role assignments
The Role Finder is particularly helpful when you need to:
- Verify consistency -- Check that a team member has the same role on all projects they should be working on.
- Spot gaps -- Identify projects where a member is missing a role they need.
- Review before offboarding -- See every project a departing team member has access to, so you can remove them systematically.
Resolving role names
ACC projects may use custom role names that differ from the standard set. The Role Finder's resolve feature maps custom role names back to their underlying ACC role type, making it easier to compare across projects that use different naming conventions.
To resolve roles:
- In the Role Finder results, look for the Resolve option next to any role name.
- Click it to see the underlying ACC role type and its associated permissions.
You can export Role Finder results to CSV for offline analysis or reporting. Use the export button in the toolbar after running a search.
