Build Your Business Case
Learn how to use the Business Case tool to calculate ROI and generate data-backed messages that show the value of adopting Foreman for your organization.
What is the Business Case Tool?
The Business Case tool helps you quantify the value of adopting Foreman and communicate that value to decision-makers. It combines two capabilities:
- ROI Calculator — Input your environment details (projects, team size, workflows) and see exactly how much time and money Foreman saves compared to manual Forma administration.
- Message Generator — Use AI to create a polished, data-backed message (email, executive summary, or Slack/Teams post) tailored to your audience.
You can access the tool at any time from the sidebar or by visiting /business-case directly.
The Business Case tool works for both guests and signed-in users. If you're signed in, your inputs are pre-populated with real usage data from your account.
Using the ROI Calculator
The ROI Calculator tab lets you model your current environment and see projected savings.
Step 1: Enter your environment
Adjust the sliders or type values directly for each input:
- Forma Projects — Number of active Autodesk Forma projects you manage.
- Team Members — Total people across your projects who need access management.
- New Projects / Month — How many new projects your team sets up each month.
- Avg Folders / Project — Typical number of folders in each project's structure.
- Access Requests / Month — How many access requests your team processes monthly.
- Admin Hourly Rate — The loaded cost per hour for the staff doing Forma administration.
Step 2: Review assumptions
Click Assumptions to expand the panel and fine-tune the calculation model:
- Manual Time Per Task — How many minutes each task takes without Foreman (folder operations, folder creation, access requests, audits).
- Foreman Time Reduction — The percentage reduction Foreman delivers for each task type (defaults are based on industry averages).
All results update instantly as you adjust any input.
Step 3: Read your results
The Time & Cost Savings card shows:
- Bar chart comparing manual vs. Foreman hours per month.
- Six key metrics — manual hours/month, Foreman hours/month, hours saved/year, cost saved/year, Foreman cost/year, and net savings/year.
- ROI highlight — your return on investment percentage, payback period, and break-even month.
Step 4: Choose a plan
If pricing data is available, the Recommended Plan card shows Foreman's subscription tiers with the recommended plan highlighted based on your environment size. Select a plan to include its pricing in the ROI calculation.
Step 5: Share your results
Use the action buttons to:
- Copy Summary — Copy a text summary of your ROI numbers to the clipboard.
- Share Link — Generate a shareable URL that preserves all your inputs so others can see the same results.
Using the Message Generator
The Message Generator tab creates a ready-to-send message using your ROI data and context.
Step 1: Provide your context
Fill in details that personalise the message:
- Your Role / Title — e.g., BIM Manager, Project Admin.
- Company Size and Industry — helps the AI tailor the message tone.
- Output Format — choose Email Draft, Executive Summary, or Slack/Teams Message.
- Recipient's Name and Title (optional) — personalises the greeting and framing.
- Additional Context (optional) — mention budget constraints, upcoming projects, or tools you've tried.
Step 2: Select pain points and features
Choose the Key Pain Points your team currently faces (e.g., manual folder setup, inconsistent permissions) and the Foreman Features most relevant to your case. These selections shape the message content.
Step 3: Generate and edit
Click Generate to create your message. The AI incorporates your ROI data, context, pain points, and selected features into a professional, persuasive message.
Once generated, you can:
- Preview — See a rendered preview of the message.
- Edit Markdown — Switch to the editor to make manual adjustments with the formatting toolbar (bold, italic, headings, lists, links, tables).
- Fill Placeholders — If the AI left any placeholders (shown in amber), click to fill them in via a dialog.
Start with the ROI Calculator tab first — the generated message is much more compelling when it includes concrete savings figures.
Step 4: Send or share
After reviewing your message:
- Copy to Clipboard — Paste it into any email client or messaging app.
- Regenerate — Create a fresh version if the first doesn't quite fit.
- Send via Email (signed-in users) — Send directly from Foreman. Enter the recipient's email and subject line, then click Send. If any placeholders remain unfilled, you'll see a warning before sending.
Your Usage Data (signed-in users)
If you're authenticated, the Message Generator shows a Your Usage Data section with stats pulled from your actual Foreman activity:
- Projects managed, members tracked, folder operations completed
- Folders created, access requests processed, scheduled jobs configured
- MCP-enabled projects, estimated hours saved
These numbers are automatically included in your generated message, making the business case backed by real data rather than hypothetical projections.
The Business Case tool is available at three URLs: /business-case, /roi-calculator, and /convince-my-boss. All three lead to the same page — use whichever is easiest to remember.
