5-Step Guided Wizard

One matrix to rule your entire project

Define your roles, folder structures, and permissions in a single guided workflow. The Project Matrix Wizard turns your organisational structure into a deployable configuration — ready for Autodesk Construction Cloud.

What is the Project Matrix?

It's the single configuration that ties together everything your ACC project needs — roles, folder structures, and permissions — built from a three-level hierarchy you define.

Step 1 — You define

L1
Parties

Employer, Lead Designer, Contractor…

L2
Functions

Approver, Checker, Design Manager…

L3
Disciplines

Architecture, Structure, Electrical, All…

Foreman generates

Complete Role List

Every valid L1–L2–L3 combination, with overrides applied. Downloadable as CSV.

Employer - Approver - Environmental Lead Designer - Checker - Architecture Lead Designer - Design Manager - All
Then, in the same wizard
Folder Structure

Define folder templates with smart placeholders. The wizard expands them into a complete folder tree — ready to deploy to your ACC project.

Permission Mappings

Assign the generated roles to folders with specific access levels. The role list powers the permission picker — so every mapping uses a valid, structured role.

Five steps. Complete control.

The wizard walks you through each stage — no technical expertise required. Every step shows a live preview of what you're building.

1

Roles Matrix

Define your three levels — parties, functional roles, and disciplines. Add values inline, rename with a click, and watch the role list build in real time. The wizard generates every valid combination automatically.

Real-time role count as you add values
Click any value to rename — changes cascade through all steps
Download the complete role list as CSV at any time

Example output

Employer - Approver - Environmental
Employer - Approver - Civils
Lead Designer - Checker - Architecture
Lead Designer - Design Manager - All
Contractor - General - Highways
…and more
2

Overrides

Not every party needs every function and discipline. Overrides let you restrict which Level 2 and Level 3 values apply to specific parties — trimming the matrix down to only the combinations that actually exist on your project.

Per-party restrictions on functions and disciplines
Leave empty to inherit all global values
Role preview updates instantly to reflect overrides

Example override

Employer restricted to:
General Approver
Environmental All
4 roles instead of 24
3

Display Names

Map your party codes to human-readable labels. This is especially useful when your Level 1 values use ISO 19650 codes — the display names make folder structures and reports immediately understandable without a lookup table.

One display name per party — completely optional
Used in folder expansion for readable folder names
Toggle on or off for folder naming in Step 4

Example mapping

Employer Meridian Infrastructure
Lead Designer Pinnacle Design
4

Folder Structure

Define folder templates using smart placeholders — XXX expands to each party and YYY expands to each discipline. The wizard shows a live tree preview of every folder that will be created — and lets you exclude or rename individual ones.

Placeholder tokens auto-expand into full folder trees
Exclude or rename specific folders from the expanded tree
Optionally use display names or overrides for expansion

Template → Folders

Documents / XXX / YYY
Documents/Employer/Environmental
Documents/Employer/Civils
Documents/Lead Designer/Architecture
Documents/Lead Designer/Structure
…auto-expanded
5

Folder Permissions

Assign who can access what. Select a role pattern, choose a permission level (from View Only to Full Control), and apply it across multiple folders at once. Fine-tune individual folders or bulk-apply to the entire tree.

Six permission tiers from View Only to Full Control
Bulk-apply same permission to hundreds of folders in one click
Inline editing for per-folder overrides

Permission levels

View Only
View / Download
View / Download + Markup
View / Download + Markup + Upload
View / Download + Markup + Upload + Edit

What you walk away with

By the end of the wizard, your entire project configuration is captured in one reusable, editable package.

Complete Role List

Every valid L1–L2–L3 combination, with overrides applied. Downloadable as CSV, and validated against your ACC project's existing roles — mismatches are flagged immediately.

Copy individual roles to clipboard, or download the full list for ACC admin upload.

Folder Structure

Templates auto-expanded into a concrete folder tree, with exclusions and renames applied. The structure maps directly to your parties and disciplines — so every team has a clear home in the CDE.

Preview the full tree before deploying. Exclude or rename individual folders without editing templates.

Permission Mappings

Every role-to-folder-to-access-level mapping, ready to deploy. Bulk-applied during the wizard and fine-tuned per folder — so the right people get the right access from day one.

Supports six permission tiers — from view-only observers to full-control administrators.

Reusable Configuration

The entire configuration is saved to Foreman. Come back to edit it, apply it to new projects, or use it as a template for your next programme — no need to start from scratch.

Edit in the wizard at any time. Changes are versioned and can be re-deployed.

Validate before you deploy

After the wizard, use the deployment page to check your ACC project's existing folders against the matrix — then create what's missing in one click.

Validate

Compare your matrix's expected folders against what already exists in ACC. Choose exact matching or fuzzy matching for near-misses.

Exact or fuzzy matching modes
Progress tracking with ETA
Export results as CSV for audits

Deploy

Create the folder structure and apply all permission mappings to your ACC project in one operation. Folders that already exist are skipped — only what's missing gets created.

Folders + permissions in one click
Skips existing folders automatically
Live progress tracking during creation

Audit

See exactly what was created, what was skipped, and what needs attention. Every action is logged with status badges — created, already exists, or failed.

Status badges per folder
Success rate summary
Exportable validation results

Powers everything else in Foreman

The project matrix isn't just a setup tool — it's the foundation that every other Foreman feature builds on.

Access Requests

The matrix powers the 3-level role picker on public access request forms. Requesters answer organisation, function, and discipline questions — and Foreman resolves the correct role automatically.

Member Onboarding

Role dropdowns pull directly from the matrix, so admins can only assign valid role combinations. No typos, no invalid assignments — just pick the party, function, and discipline.

AI & MCP Integration

Foreman's AI tools understand your matrix structure — resolving job titles to ACC roles, bulk-assigning members by party or discipline, and running compliance checks that reference the matrix as source of truth.
