Project Matrix · 5-Step Wizard
One matrix to rule your entire project.
Define your roles, folder structures and permissions in a single guided workflow. The Project Matrix Wizard turns your project structure into a deployable configuration — ready for Autodesk Forma.
Overview · What it is
What is the Project Matrix?
It's the single configuration that ties together everything your Autodesk Forma project needs — roles, folder structures, and permissions — built from a three-level hierarchy you define. Already have roles? Import your CSV and let AI restructure non-standard formats into the model.
| Level | Name | Example values |
|---|---|---|
| L1 | Parties | Employer, Principal Consultant, Contractor… |
| L2 | Functions | Approver, Checker, Design Manager… |
| L3 | Disciplines | Architecture, Structure, Electrical, All… |

Primary output
Complete Role List
Every valid L1–L2–L3 combination, with overrides applied. Downloadable as CSV.
Then · Same wizard
Folder Structure
Define folder templates with smart placeholders. The wizard expands them into a complete folder tree — ready to deploy to your Autodesk Forma project.
Then · Same wizard
Permission Mappings
Assign the generated roles to folders with specific access levels. The role list powers the permission picker — so every mapping uses a valid, structured role.
Saved · Reusable
Reusable Configuration
The entire configuration is saved to Foreman. Come back to edit, apply it to new projects, or use it as a template for your next programme.
The wizard · 5 steps
Five steps. Complete control.
The wizard walks you through each stage — no technical expertise required. Every step shows a live preview of what you're building.
Roles Matrix
Define your three levels — parties, functional roles, and disciplines. Add values inline, rename with a click, and watch the role list build in real time. The wizard generates every valid combination automatically.
- Real-time role count as you add values
- Click any value to rename — changes cascade through all steps
- Download the complete role list as CSV at any time

Overrides & Role Groups
Not every party needs every function and discipline. Intelligence analyzes your parties and suggests which to restrict. Then create role groups — catch-all roles like "Client - General - All" that cover multiple specific roles, dramatically reducing permission rules and simplifying member management.
- Intelligence suggests restrictions and role groups based on your matrix
- Role groups consolidate permissions — one rule replaces dozens
- Configurable match mode — "All" or "At least one" — controls when groups auto-include on access request forms
- Groups flow into access requests, sharing, transmittals, and reviews

Display Names
Map your party codes to human-readable labels. This is especially useful when your Level 1 values use ISO 19650 codes — the display names make folder structures and reports immediately understandable without a lookup table.
- One display name per party — completely optional
- Used in folder expansion for readable folder names
- Toggle on or off for folder naming in Step 4
Example mapping
Folder Structure
Define folder templates using smart placeholders — XXX expands to each party and YYY expands to each discipline. AI suggests ISO 19650 CDE folder templates (WIP, Shared, Published, Archive) tailored to your project, or import existing structures from Autodesk Forma.
- Intelligence suggests ISO 19650 folder templates based on your roles
- Placeholder tokens auto-expand into full folder trees
- Import from Autodesk Forma, exclude or rename individual folders

Folder Permissions
Smart Suggestions auto-generate permission rules based on how folders relate to roles. Choose a strategy preset (Isolated, Restrictive, Collaborative, Open), then let intelligence fine-tune permissions per function — senior roles get more access, specialists get less.
- Strategy presets: Isolated, Restrictive, Collaborative, Open
- Intelligence adjusts permissions per function (BIM Lead vs General)
- Role filters to include/exclude by party, function, or discipline

Deliverables · End of wizard
What you walk away with.
By the end of the wizard, your entire project configuration is captured in one reusable, editable package.
Deliv · 01
Complete Role List
Every valid L1–L2–L3 combination, with overrides applied. Downloadable as CSV, and validated against your Autodesk Forma project's existing roles — mismatches are flagged immediately.
Deliv · 02
Folder Structure
Intelligence-suggested ISO 19650 folder templates, auto-expanded into a concrete folder tree. The structure maps directly to your parties and disciplines — so every team has a clear home in the CDE.
Deliv · 03
Permission Mappings
Intelligence-powered smart suggestions generate permission rules based on strategy presets and role-to-folder matching, fine-tuned by function — so BIM Leads get Full Control while General roles get View/Download.

Reusable Configuration
The entire configuration is saved to Foreman. Come back to edit it, apply it to new projects, or use it as a template for your next programme — no need to start from scratch.
Deploy · Validate · Audit
Validate before you deploy.
After the wizard, use the deployment page to check your Autodesk Forma project's existing folders against the matrix — then create what's missing in one click.
Validate
Compare your matrix's expected folders against what already exists in Autodesk Forma. Choose exact matching or fuzzy matching for near-misses.
Exact · Fuzzy · Progress · CSVDeploy
Create the folder structure and apply all permission mappings to your Autodesk Forma project in one operation. Folders that already exist are skipped — only what's missing gets created.
One click · Skips existing · Live progressAudit
See exactly what was created, what was skipped, and what needs attention. Every action is logged with status badges — created, already exists, or failed.
Status badges · Success rate · ExportDownstream · Powers everything
Powers everything else in Foreman.
The project matrix isn't just a setup tool — it's the foundation that every other Foreman feature builds on.

Access Requests
The matrix powers the 3-level role picker on public access request forms. Requesters select party, function, and discipline — and role groups auto-include when their selections cover the group's members. Admins see locked group badges alongside individual roles during review.
→Downstream · 02
Member Addition
Role dropdowns pull directly from the matrix, so admins can only assign valid role combinations. No typos, no invalid assignments — just pick the party, function, and discipline.

AI & MCP Integration
Intelligence is woven into every step of the wizard — generating roles, suggesting overrides, proposing ISO 19650 folder templates, and building smart permission strategies. Beyond the wizard, it resolves job titles to Autodesk Forma roles, bulk-assigns members, and runs compliance checks against your matrix.
